Charles Roberts has been the Pastor/Teacher of Ballston Center Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church since August 1996. Pastor Roberts is a native of Columbia, South Carolina, and the son of the late Charles H. Roberts, Sr. and Ann McDill Roberts. Prior to his call to Ballston Center, he was pastor of Faith Associate Reformed Presbyterian in Sumter, SC. He is married to the former Michelle Bruinsma and they have two daughters.
Pastor Roberts is a graduate of Eau Claire High School in Columbia, SC (class of 1972) and of the University of South Carolina where he earned a B.A. degree in Philosophy and Religious Studies (double major) in 1977. After graduating from college he worked for 11 years in marketing and advertising at a daily newspaper in Winston Salem, North Carolina.
In 1988, pursuing God's call to the Gospel ministry, he and his wife moved to Philadelphia, PA, where he enrolled at Westminster Theological Seminary. He graduated from Westminster 1991, having earned the M.A. in Religion degree, with a concentration in Theology. In 1992, he enrolled at Erskine Theological Seminary in Due West, South Carolina, the denominational seminary of the ARP Church, from which he earned the M.Div. degree in 1993. Continuing post-graduate studies, he later earned Master of Theology (Th.M.) and Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) degrees from Whitefield Theological Seminary.
Pastor Roberts is a Certified Life Coach graduate of Coach Training Alliance-an ICF accredited institution.
He has served as Moderator of Northeast Presbytery (2000-2002), as a member of Synod's Committee on Theological and Social Concerns, Synod's Commission on Ecclesiastical and Judicial Affairs, and on the Executive Board of the General Synod.
Pastor Roberts' hobbies and pastimes include physical fitness, Soccer (the REAL game of football!, and computers. He has trained in martial arts since 1966 and earned black belt ranks in Kamishin Ryu Kempo and Tae Kwon Do. He is a member of the Nippon Kobudo Rengokai (founded by the late Albert C. Church, Jr). He is a Life Member of the University of South Carolina Alumni Association (Go Gamecocks!).
